About Sunset Animal Hospital



We continuously work toward improving our level of veterinary medicine and customer service. Our veterinary health care services include annual exams and vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, radiography and lab work, dentistry, and much more.
 
Sunset Animal Hospital not only provides quality health care for your pet, we also have large, air-conditioned dog kennels and a separate cat room with cages and kitty condos for overnight boarding of your pet!
 
The entire staff of Sunset Animal Hospital is dedicated to providing high quality medical and surgical care to each of our patients. Our equipment, techniques, and methods come from the highest accredited standards in veterinary medicine.

Meet the Veterinarians & Team of Sunset Animal Hospital in Sunrise! We’re pleased to provide exceptional vet care for your pets!



Dr. Cristina Polit
Veterinarian


Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Dr. Polit felt the call to bring wellness to the wild early on in her life. From a young age, she immersed herself in the veterinary field, with many memories centering around the veterinarian's office at which she would do an internship and volunteer each day after school. 
Before graduating from the Universidad Agraria del Ecuador with a Veterinary Degree, she interned during the summers of her last two years of school. Shortly after coming to Florida, Dr. Polit gained experience at various animal hospitals, and then went on to assist two other hospitals as a solo practitioner and decided to pursue her dream of opening her own practice. Presently, Dr. Polit is the owner and Practicing DVM of Sunset Animal Hospital. As her husband and two boys can attest, Dr. Polit's love of animals extends far beyond the practice's walls, with a full-house consisting of five spoiled dogs, two bouncing rabbits, and three aquatic turtles.
 
Her inclusion of animals in her home life mirrors her passion for them at work, and she describes her practice's philosophy as one in which, “We treat animals the same way as humans.” Dr. Polit loves making others happy by making their pets well, and she's always an eager resource for pet owners looking to improve the health or quality of life of their pets. She has a special interest in surgery, exotic pets and is an expert in treating bulldog breeds.



Dr. Mayra Sanchez
Veterinarian


Doctor Mayra Sanchez was born and raised in Miami, and has a Nicaraguan and Cuban background. Since she was a little girl, she knew she wanted to be in the veterinary field. She loves the challenge of the patient not being able to tell what is wrong with them, so she has to put her skills to use and find out the right treatment. She joined us in January 2019 and we are very happy to have her in our team. 
She studied her Bachelor’s at Florida International University and got her Veterinary degree from The University of Georgia and was an honor roll student in both schools. She has been married for 4 years now and has 2 dogs, 1 cat and a desert tortoise.
 
During her free time, she likes to try different cuisine. She is a foodie by heart and like any Miami girl she likes to relax by the beach. Currently, she is remodelling her house so she is spending her time off at hardware stores looking for items to remodel her house.
